XL series: frame sizes, flanges and seals

What sizes does the XL series cover?

The XL series covers twelve single-stage frames, XL35 to XL950, sized to the Vectra XL class of Gardner Denver Nash liquid ring pumps. Gardner Denver Nash rates the original Vectra XL range at about 195–8,900 m³/h, down to 33 mbar abs and up to 3 bar abs discharge as a compressor. Our table on this page publishes flange sizes only; capacity, vacuum and motor for a given XL frame come with the quotation as a curve at your duty point.

Do the XL flanges match a Vectra XL I already have?

The inlet and outlet flange sizes of all twelve frames in our XL table are the sizes Gardner Denver Nash publishes for Vectra XL 35 to XL 950: the XL35 has 3 in. (80 mm) flanges on both sides, the XL45 a 3 in. inlet with a 2 in. (50 mm) outlet, the XL150 a 6 in. (150 mm) inlet with a 4 in. (100 mm) outlet, and the XL950 a 12 in. (300 mm) inlet with a 10 in. (250 mm) outlet. Flange size is the first check, not the only one: before quoting we also compare flange orientation, foundation bolt pattern and shaft height with your original drawing, and if it doesn't match, we don't quote.

Which shaft seal does an XL pump use?

An XL pump can have either seal, so check before ordering seal parts: Gardner Denver Nash lists a stuffing box as standard on Vectra XL, with single or double mechanical seals and cartridge seals as options, and states that mechanical seals are standard on stainless-steel XL 35–150. Our parts list for each XL frame covers both — gland packing with a typical interval of 6–12 months and mechanical seals at 1–2 years. A photo of the seal housing or the serial number tells us which one your pump has.
