What it does inside the pump
The interstage piping connects the Roots booster discharge to the liquid ring pump suction. It is a duty component rather than a plain pipe: its bore sets the pressure drop between the stages, and on many packages it carries the bypass valve and the interstage cooling connection.
How it fails, and what you see first
Interstage piping corrodes from the inside where condensate collects at low points, and its flanged joints are a frequent source of inward air leaks that are blamed on the pumps. It also gets restricted by scale and by carryover solids, which raises the booster discharge pressure and puts the booster into the overload region where the rotors grow and rub.

Package model and serial, plus a sketch or photograph of the run with flange sizes, standard and face-to-face dimensions. Say whether the bypass valve and any cooling connections are part of the spool. State the material — 304 and 316 are the usual upgrades from carbon steel.
