What it does inside the pump

The O-ring kit covers the elastomer seals that are not part of the flat-gasket set: behind the mechanical seal faces, on the shaft sleeve, at the cone adjustment, and on the port and drain connections. Elastomer choice, not size, is what usually decides whether the kit lasts.

How it fails, and what you see first

O-rings fail by swelling, hardening or compression set. Swelling means the compound is wrong for the process — the ring grows and extrudes out of its groove. Hardening and taking a permanent set is age plus temperature. Explosive decompression damage, where the ring looks blistered or split internally, happens on machines that see a rapid pressure change and needs a different compound, not a different size.

What to send us so the part is right

Model and serial, and the process gas and seal liquid with its temperature. If you have had a swelling failure, send a photograph of the ring next to a new one — the amount of growth tells us which compound family to move to. FKM covers most duties; FFKM is for aggressive chemistry and high temperature.
