What it does inside the pump

The casing carries the bore that the liquid ring runs against, and sets the eccentricity between that bore and the impeller. The whole pressure difference the machine can generate is set by how true that bore is and how tight the radial clearance stays.

How it fails, and what you see first

Casings are a semi-wear item — they normally outlast several impellers. They go out of service for three reasons: bore erosion where the ring is thinnest and fastest, general corrosion of the wetted wall in aggressive service, and frost cracking after a shutdown where the seal liquid was not drained. A bore that has worn oval will not hold vacuum even with a brand-new impeller, which is why we ask for bore measurements before quoting only an impeller.

What to send us so the part is right

Model, serial and casting number if it is legible on the body. Suction and discharge flange sizes and standard (DIN/ANSI/JIS), plus bore diameter measured at two points 90° apart so we can see whether it has gone oval. Photographs of both flange faces help.
